Executed in 1312 by many barons of England under Edward II. Seems Piers and Edward were "close friends" and as a result, Edward lavished favors on Piers which the other barons objected to. Fearing for his life, Piers ran away with Edward to Scarborough (?) castle where, after a seige, he finally surrendered himself to the barons and was hence decapitated. When Piers and Edward II were children, Edward's father Edward I proclaimed Piers "the corrupter of his [young Edward] youth". |
